One of Eastleigh’s last original house’s, that was built on Romsey Road, is under the threat of being knocked down to make way for new flats spread over a four storey housing complex.
Russell House, as it has become known locally, has been the home for towns Social Services Department for many years but in February 2010, Hampshire County Councils Child and Adult Services, moved from the building to new offices located on Southampton Road, leaving this stunning and unchanged set of semi detached homes empty and with an uncertain future.
STUNNING Last of the old unchanged Victorian houses on
Romsey Road
The SS, used this site for its Family Case Conferences, Adult Mental Health Coordination, Child Welfare Meetings and as a base for its teenaged Social Workers to meet before going out and removing children from family homes, making false claims of child neglect and generally sticking its noose into family lives resulting in broken homes and mentally scarred kids.
Now the building is sits peacefully, hidden behind trees and awaiting its future.
However, plans for what Eastleigh Borough Council are referring to as a Major Development, have been posted on a lamp post located on a footpath outside the late Victorian houses, stating that Churchill Retirement Living, are seeking planning permission to knock down another part of our towns heritage and history to create thirty five retirement flats with a mixture of both one and two bedroom apartments together with guest suites, according to the EBC planning application F/11/69382.
The planning application will further see the ripping out of twenty (20) mature trees to allow for the new building works to take place, this dispite EBC claims that they are Tackling Climate Change.!! (Clearly)
HORRID. What will replace the old houses
on Romsey Road.
It is not known when this application will come before the Eastleigh Local Area Committee for deliberation but given this councils hatred of all things old and historic in our town, it is almost a given that the plans will be rubber stamped by local Lib Dem councillors, who no doubt will be rubbing their hands together at the thought of receiving over £100,000 pounds in developer contributions from the deal, which it will quietly siphon away to support their money loosing QANGO the POINTless, which this council has been doing uncheck, unaccounted and secretly for a number of years.
People who foolishly wish to object to this planning application and save this beautiful building have until the 30th of August do so by writing to;
Head of Development Control
Eastleigh Borough Council
Civic House
Leigh Road

Go on, they do like a good laugh.!!
