The short-sighted makers of the new Specsavers advert would seem to be in need of new glasses themselves.
The advert, which was directed by
Another Film Company's Jeff Stark, features the crew of the famous Space Shuttle landing at Luton Airport by mistake. However, eagle-eyed viewers have spotted that in fact the crew are landing at
Gatwick Airport. ‘I could not believe such a huge mistake could be made by a company advertising glasses’, said Oliver Thomas from Eastleigh. The 43 year old plane spotter, went on to
point out that ‘Luton Airport only has one runway, yet in the advert the crew are landing at an airport that has two runways and it is clear that it is Gatwick Airport. Clearly someone needs
glasses.'
Luton Airport with only one runway.
Gatwick as Luton Airport as seen in TV
advert.
MEC, who are the media agency for Specsavers, were unavailable for comment over the gaff but Graham Daldry, Specsavers creative director, deafened the advert and its mistake by saying 'This ad boldly goes where no eyesight joke has been before. It has visual scale, a strong mislead and has been superbly directed by Jeff Stark, with great production values.'
Should have gone to Specsavers.!!
